CONQUER RADIO FREQUENCYA Multimedia Conceptual Guide to RF & Microwave Engineering, Based on AWR Microwave Office Video Tutorials
Dr Francesco Fornetti This material, which includes a full-colour textbook and over 12 hours of video tutorials (in mp4 format), provides a comprehensive guide for the RF and Microwave engineering student or junior professional.
It allows the reader to achieve a good understanding of the foundation theory and concepts behind high frequency circuits as well illustrating the most common design and simulation techniques for passive and active RF circuits. Read more On this page you may find a preview of the textbook, which includes a comprehensive description of the content of the video tutorials and also YouTube links to two of the 40 tutorials. |

I just purchased the "Conquer Radio Frequency" course and wish I would have had it during my undergraduate degree. It would have clarified the concepts to make it easier to learn the theory. Then it goes on to the practical aspects. In addition, it teaches Microwave Office! Brilliant!! Justin G.
A great Book. Very well written and understandable. The author considers the pitfalls of learning transmission lines for the first time. Highly recommended for new engineers as well as seasoned professionals in need of review.

Although the book covers all of the relevant mathematics in appropriate detail, the emphasis is on explanation of the physical behaviour of signals and components in RF circuits. This sets it apart from other RF text books I have used, and has helped me to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the physical phenomena behind the mathematics. The microwave office tutorials were not only useful for leaning to use the software, but also allowed me to visualise and explore the concepts explained in the book, which greatly enhanced the learning experience.

The text is well constructed and makes large use of visual content which helps elucidate and clarify the principles being taught. In the text, Dr Fornetti explains core concepts by taking the reader through step by step, using both illustrations and graphs, what is occurring in the physical process being described. It is clear that Dr Fornetti has gone to great lengths to remove the bafflement often experienced by people learning about radio frequency and microwave engineering for the first time.
In the text Dr Fornetti often poses questions which typical readers might well ask themselves, and goes on to provide clear explanations, often making clever use of analogies, as well as using clear illustrations. Dr Fornetti's dual media approach is unique and helps the reader create a deep intuitive understanding of the concepts covered in the material. For me it was a great way to learn AWR Microwave Office, and specifically, using Microwave Office to perform conjugate impedance matching on transistor amplifiers, which was required for my university course in microwave engineering. I have utilized Dr. Fornetti's book to review some basic RF concepts and have to say that the concepts are well explained. I had struggled to grasp some of the advanced level concepts in my coursework and this book in conjunction with the videos are doing a wonderful job filling in the gaps. Jason K.
May I commend the author on his textbook – a very digestible and visual exposition of topics that are often hard to illustrate and expound.

A great resource for engineers and technicians new to the realm of RF design and simulation.
Dr. Fornetti's introductory video (on YouTube) provides a great synopsis for the "Conquer Radio Frequency" book and to the very well-done set of instructional videos featured on the included DVD. AWR's Microwave Office (MWO) software is used throughout the tutorials. A live, narrated, step-by-step process is fully captured on-screen so you see how to create the circuit schematic, set up the component parameters for simulation and optimization, specify graph and table types, how to designation input files, configure input stimulus, and how to interpret the results of the simulation. It is an excellent way to familiarize yourself with where to find everything in MWO's menu and toolbar structure - which can be a daunting task with any sophisticated software. The book itself is chock full of very understandable instruction beginning with AC/RF fundamentals and progressing through impedance matching, transmission lines, Q factors, amplifier design, and much more. The illustrations are excellent. Read full review at RF Cafe', RFcafe.com
In my experience, the approach taken by Dr Fornetti in teaching RF engineering in this book is unique and the clarity of the text, the math and the simulations sets it apart from the other well known works such as that by Chris Bowick which address the same market.
The content of this book and the accompanying videos are comparable to a number of the expensive three or four day courses that are on offer but at a fraction of the price and with the added convenience that the student can study at his/her own pace and when work commitments permit. I highly recommend this book to you. Read full review Keith A.
